Terms of Service

Last updated: March 2026

These terms govern your use of Scenarios ("the Service"), a UK retirement planning tool operated by an individual based in the United Kingdom. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

1. The Service

Scenarios is a financial modelling tool that uses Monte Carlo simulation to project retirement outcomes. It is designed for educational and informational purposes only. The Service allows you to create financial plans, run simulations, compare scenarios, and generate PDF reports.

2. Not Financial Advice

Scenarios does not provide regulated financial advice, personal recommendations, or guidance within the meaning of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. The projections, charts, plan confidence scores, tax calculations, and insights generated by the Service are based on mathematical models and assumptions — they are not predictions, guarantees, or recommendations to take or refrain from taking any particular course of action. You should consult a qualified, FCA-regulated financial adviser before making significant financial decisions. Scenarios is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

2a. Tax Calculations

Tax figures shown by Scenarios are indicative estimates only and do not constitute tax advice. Calculations are based on published HMRC rates and thresholds for the 2026/27 tax year and are simplified models that may not reflect your full individual tax position. Tax rules, rates, and allowances are subject to change by the UK Government — the Service may not immediately reflect such changes. Scenarios does not account for all possible tax reliefs, exemptions, or individual circumstances. You are responsible for verifying any tax-related outputs with HMRC or a qualified tax professional before relying on them.

3. User Responsibility

You are solely responsible for:
The accuracy and completeness of any data you enter into the Service, including account balances, income figures, spending assumptions, and tax parameters.
Verifying the outputs of the Service against your own records and, where appropriate, with a qualified professional before acting on them.
Any financial decisions you make based on or informed by the Service. Scenarios does not accept responsibility for decisions made using its outputs.
Keeping your account credentials secure and notifying us promptly if you become aware of any unauthorised access.
You acknowledge that the Service models hypothetical scenarios based on assumptions and that real-world outcomes will differ — potentially significantly — from any projection.

4. Accounts

You must provide a valid email address to create an account. You must not share your account credentials or allow others to access your account. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. We reserve the right to refuse service or close accounts at our discretion.

5. Subscription Plans & Payment

Scenarios offers three tiers: Free, Solo, and Duo. Paid plans are available on both monthly and annual billing cycles. Annual billing offers a discounted rate compared to monthly. Features available on each tier are described on the pricing page and may change from time to time. We reserve the right to change pricing with at least 30 days' notice to existing subscribers. Price changes do not affect the current billing period.
Plan limits: Free and Solo plans allow 1 saved plan. Duo allows up to 2 saved plans.
Billing cycles: monthly subscriptions are billed on the same date each month. Annual subscriptions are billed on the same date each year. All prices are in GBP and include VAT where applicable.
Payment processing: all payments are handled by Stripe. We do not store card numbers, bank details, or billing addresses. Stripe acts as an independent data controller — see Stripe's privacy policy.

6. Auto-Renewal

Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing cycle (monthly or annual) at the then-current price unless cancelled before the renewal date. We will send a renewal reminder by email at least 7 days before an annual renewal charge. It is your responsibility to cancel before the renewal date if you do not wish to continue.
Failed payments: if a renewal payment fails, we will retry the charge up to 3 times over 14 days. If all attempts fail, your subscription is cancelled and your account reverts to the Free tier.

7. Referral Programme

Scenarios operates a referral programme that allows paid subscribers to earn subscription credits by referring new users. Participation is subject to the following rules:
Eligibility: only users with an active paid subscription (Solo or Duo) may refer others. Free-tier users are not eligible to participate.
Reward: when a referred user subscribes to a paid plan and remains subscribed for at least 7 days, the referrer receives a credit equal to one month's subscription value. Credits are applied automatically to the referrer's next billing cycle.
Referred user benefit: the referred user receives a promotional discount on their first payment, as displayed at checkout.
Qualification: a referral qualifies only if the referred user subscribes to a paid plan and maintains that subscription for at least 7 consecutive days. If the referred user cancels within 7 days, no credit is issued.
Credits: referral credits are non-transferable, have no cash value, and cannot be exchanged for money. Credits reduce the amount due on your next renewal.
Prohibited conduct: self-referrals (creating multiple accounts), posting referral links on public coupon or deal-aggregation sites, and any form of spam or misleading promotion are prohibited.
Abuse & revocation: we reserve the right to withhold or revoke credits, disable referral links, or suspend accounts if we reasonably believe the programme is being abused. We may modify or discontinue the referral programme at any time with reasonable notice.

8. Cancellation Rights & Digital Content Waiver

Loss of cancellation right. Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (Regulation 37), you normally have a 14-day right to cancel a digital content purchase. However, by proceeding with checkout you expressly consent to the Service being made available to you immediately, and you acknowledge that you will lose your right of cancellation once the digital content has been fully provided (i.e. once you access paid features). This consent is collected and timestamped by Stripe at the point of purchase.
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Account & Billing page or via the Stripe customer portal — there are no cancellation fees, notice periods, or lock-in contracts. Upon cancellation, access to paid features continues until the end of your current billing period (monthly or annual). Your account then reverts to the Free tier. No further payments are taken. Saved plans and data are retained.
Monthly subscribers: cancel at any time and retain access until your next monthly billing date.
Annual subscribers: cancel at any time and retain access until the end of your annual billing period.
Downgrades: when reverting to the Free tier, features restricted to paid tiers become inaccessible. Saved plans are preserved but plan limits apply — if you exceed the Free tier limit, you must delete plans before creating new ones.

9. Refunds

Paid subscriptions are non-refundable, including partial or pro-rata refunds for unused time. You can cancel at any time and retain access until the end of your current billing period — no further charges are taken. Refunds for exceptional circumstances may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Contact support@scenarios.uk.
Nothing in this clause affects your statutory rights as a consumer under English law.

10. Your Data

You retain ownership of all financial plan data you enter into Scenarios. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your data. See our for details on how we store, process, and protect your data.

11. Accuracy & Limitations

While we strive for accuracy, the Service has inherent limitations:
Tax calculations are based on the 2026/27 UK tax year. Tax rules are frozen at that point and do not automatically update when legislation changes.
Monte Carlo simulations use assumed return distributions that may not reflect actual market behaviour. See our Methodology page for full details on return assumptions, the correlation matrix, and known limitations.
Plan confidence scores indicate the percentage of simulated scenarios where your plan did not run out of money — they are not guarantees of real-world outcomes.
The Service does not model longevity risk, annuity pricing, long-term care costs, or behavioural spending patterns.
We make no warranty that projections will match real-world outcomes. Past performance of financial markets does not guarantee future results.

12. Service Provided "As Is"

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components. We do not warrant that calculations, projections, or tax figures produced by the Service are complete or free from error. Your use of the Service and any reliance on its outputs is entirely at your own risk.
Nothing in this clause affects your statutory rights as a consumer under English law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
Scenarios shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, loss of revenue, loss of data, loss of anticipated savings, or financial loss arising from investment or retirement decisions made using or informed by the Service.
Our total aggregate liability for any and all claims arising out of or in connection with the Service — whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise — shall not exceed the total amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
If you are using the Free tier, our maximum aggregate liability shall be £50.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for: (a) death or personal injury caused by negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; (c) any matter for which it would be unlawful to exclude or limit liability under the laws of England and Wales.

14. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:
Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the Service.
Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Service.
Resell, redistribute, or white-label the Service without written permission.
Misrepresent Scenarios outputs as regulated financial advice to third parties.

15. Intellectual Property

The Scenarios name, logo, design, code, methodology, and documentation are the intellectual property of Scenarios. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service except as expressly permitted. Screenshots and exports of your own plan data are yours to use freely.

16. Service Availability

We aim to keep the Service available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may suspend or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) with reasonable notice. If we permanently discontinue the Service, we will provide at least 30 days' notice and allow you to export your data.

17. Account Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms. You may delete your account at any time, which will permanently remove all your data within 30 days (as described in our ).

18. Complaint Handling

If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the Service, we want to hear from you. Our complaint handling process is as follows:
Step 1 — Contact us. Email support@scenarios.uk with a description of your complaint. We will acknowledge receipt within 2 working days.
Step 2 — Investigation. We will investigate and aim to provide a full response within 14 days. If we need more time, we will let you know and provide an updated timeframe.
Step 3 — Resolution. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate the matter. For billing disputes, you may raise a chargeback with your card issuer. For data protection complaints, you may contact the ICO at ico.org.uk. For general consumer disputes, you may use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform or seek legal advice.
We will keep a record of all complaints received and their outcomes. Complaints relating to billing or refunds should reference your account email and approximate date of payment.

19. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new terms. If you do not agree to the updated terms, you should stop using the Service and cancel your subscription.

20. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you retain any mandatory consumer protection rights under the law of your country of residence that cannot be waived by contract.

21. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that the remaining terms continue in full force and effect.

22. Entire Agreement

These terms, together with our and any plan-specific terms displayed at checkout, constitute the entire agreement between you and Scenarios and supersede any prior agreements or understandings.
